I am so busy, I do not have time to talk to people outside my network.
When I was CEO at #Schaerer, this was exactly how I felt many times. The day-to-day operational tasks were o overwhelming that my day had not enough hours. However, I was lucky that this job was in Switzerland and that networking in Switzerland was so easy. In no time I was part of the local industry association #Inveso and became a member of the board. I met so many inspiring people and it widened my view.
Back in Germany I tried to keep this source of inspiration – and it works. I broaden my network. Even though only few people that don’t know me personally agree to a conversation, some do. And the conversation are – with only a few exceptions – really inspiring and interesting. There is something to learn in each of them.
One of my new contacts working at Siemens told me that he specifically blocks at least one time slot a month to have a conversation with someone he does not know at all. Impressive! And guess what – in our exchange while he explained one aspect of his business to me, I put it into an analogy that he really liked and was able to use.
When did you have your last unsolicited conversation with someone you did not know before?
